Unknown breed / mixed (short coat) : : Female : : Senior : : Small blue heeler/Australian Cattle Dog
Pixie's previous owner turned her into Apache Junction Animal Care because they couldn't take care of her for 2 weeks while they were in transition between homes. Yes that's right...you read that correctly. They could NOT take care of her for 2 weeks. So instead they turned her into a kill shelter where she was put on the euthanasia list. It just so happened that a loving volunteer of Paw Placement was there and the kind worker at AJ AC&C didn't want this very scared yet sweet little girl to leave this earth. So the rest is history....and Pixie is now safe and in foster care. Pixie was definitely not well cared for. She was strictly an outdoor dog (as they indicated on the surrender form), she has multiple bite wounds and scabs on her ears, she is under weight, her coat and skin are in major need of repair, and an open wound on her foot which makes her limp. Pixie has had Valley Fever without treatment for a long time. She has been on treatment for over 3 months and is well enough to get spayed now. She will need to be on the medication for probably a couple of years due to her previous owners neglect. She no longer yelps when you touch and instead cannot wait to be petted and cuddle in your arms. She is a petite little girl that loves people so much and loves being part of the family. She is good with other dogs but tries to tell them who's boss when new dogs enter the house and will bark at them when they come near her food. Pixie has been living with a cat for the past 3 months, but likes to watch her and then chase her. So if you have a kitty that is afraid, then Pixie woulddn't be your girl. This precious girl needs a new home that will make her their little princess with soft doggie beds to sleep on instead of hard desert dirt. Pixie also loves to go for car rides and will just sit on the seat and look out the window. If you are ready to make Pixie a part of your home forever, please apply online.
