Mama Twiggy and her 7 babies were abandoned under a small tree, in the middle of the desert, about 10 miles from the nearest human. Luckily for this family, a truck driver spotted her golden coat in the sunlight and stopped, catching her and 6 of her week old babies (one had already passed away), and getting them to safety with our rescue partners in northern AZ.

We eagerly welcomed this little family into a loving foster home. Mama Twiggy was covered in blood, presumably from her labor, her beautiful coat matted and tangled with fox tails, but she was the sweetest girl from the moment we met her. And her puppies were healthy!

Juniper, Sassafras, Fern, Bonsai, Maple and Oakley have grown up in a loving home and it shows! These babies are extremely social and friendly with strangers, immediately greeting new humans with kisses and cuddles. They are smart and eager to please, energetic and playful. Momma Twiggy looks like a small golden retriever; the babies look nothing like her, so they must take after dad. They are most certainly some mix of herding breed: Australian shepherd, border collie, cattle dog. Mom is about 40 pounds and dad must have been bigger, because we suspect the puppies will be 50-70 pound adults. It's important to note that we do not know dad, so they could end up smaller or larger than this estimate; if size is a requirement for you, we don't recommend applying. These babies will be high energy dogs who require structure, discipline, and exercise to grow into well balanced adult dogs. They are looking for a home with a yard; these dogs are not appropriate for an apartment setting. Fern also requires a home with a doggie playmate.

If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application. Because we expect a large number of applications, and are still understaffed due to COVID19, we will only be able to email those applicants that are approved to schedule a meet and greet. Thank you in advance for your understanding if you don't hear back from us regarding your application.
